I made a mistake

I made the mistake of thinking bigotry would not play a role in my campaign. I was wrong.

This is just one of the many homophobic threats and attacks I receive on a daily basis.

I'm not sharing this with you to ask for your sympathy -- I'm sharing it to ask for your solidarity.

Every time a supporter stands with me, our campaign gets stronger and their attacks become weaker. My husband and I just became fathers to our beautiful baby girl, Ella.

She is the most important thing in the world to me.

I’m running so that Ella can grow up in a world where families like ours are seen, respected, and protected.

I’m running so that kids all over the country who face bigotry know they can one day make it to Congress, too.

I’m running because, while my family has seen the worst of people, this campaign has also shown us the best -- the kind of courage, kindness, and community that gives us hope.

I’m finished letting the haters think they can win.
